Repairs

Striving for perfection in everything we do, our jewelers are true masters in jewelry repair and manufacturing. Not only will we expertly – and carefully – repair your jewelry or watches, but we’ll do so right on the premises.

Trust Your Jewelry to Roman

No matter how small the task, Roman Jewelers ensures your jewelry is repaired correctly, using the best possible processes and equipment. We are proud to offer an extensive variety of jewelry repair services, from ring sizing and prong repair, to replacing missing stones, antique jewelry restoration and more.

Ring Sizing and Shank Replacement

We resize gold, platinum, and silver rings, as well as replace worn or broken shanks.

Roman Jewelers is committed to providing you with our expertise and the highest quality service, even with seemingly simple jobs. When we size a ring, we ensure the location of sizing is at the center of the shank bottom, so alterations are completely undetectable when finished.

For the same reason, we carefully maintain the style of the shank consistently around the ring base. Most importantly, we consider whether a ring’s side and center stones will be able to withstand heat from a torch while the shank is soldered. If they can, we solder by torch; if not, a laser welder is used to weld the metal instead.

Chain Soldering

While soldering your broken bracelet, necklace, or chain sounds simple, this type of repair still requires knowledge and skill.

Soldering must be done in a way that ensures an item’s broken spot is undetectable when finished. The repaired area must have the same color, luster, and appearance as the rest of the piece, with no tool marks or visible seams. The chain’s width and depth at the location of the repair must also be the same as the rest of the original piece.

Prong Repair Work

Whenever we receive a prong-containing piece of jewelry for repair we check all prongs prior to, and during, the repair process. We tighten or re-tip prongs where necessary, and repair or replace broken or missing prongs.

For any prong-containing jewelry, but especially those with larger stones, we recommend having your prongs checked at least every six months. We offer this service free of charge, so you have peace of mind knowing your stones are safe and secure.

Matching and Replacing Missing Stones

A missing stone is an indicator that a ring needs repair. Often, stones fall out because the ring’s prongs are damaged. If a ring is brought in with a missing stone, we first make ensure the ring’s prongs are examined and fixed if necessary. We then carefully examine existing stones for color, clarity, cut, and size to match them accurately with a replacement stone. Our goal in this type of jewelry repair is for a replaced stone to blend in flawlessly. When the stone replacement is done correctly, you will not to be able to tell which stone was originally missing.

As a complimentary service, any ring brought for repair (regardless of the type of repair) will have its setting and prongs inspected to prevent the future loss of stones.

Setting Diamonds and Gemstones

At Roman Jewelers, we have a wide range of knowledge and expertise to set a stone securely and beautifully. For example, did you know there should be 33% to 50% contact between the top of the prong and the crown of the stone?

In addition to the wide variety of methods that may be used when setting stones, there are also techniques that must be used when setting different types of stones. For example, colored stones (like tanzanite, opals, and emeralds) are softer types of gems, and can be easily chipped or broken while being set. As such, they require great skill and care during the setting process.

Our craftsmen have the experience and knowledge to set your stones the way they should be set.

Pearl Stringing

When your pearl or beaded necklace needs to be repaired, our team of expert jewelers will restring your piece with the highest caliber of skill and detail. To ensure high-quality restringing, we knot in between each bead and use only the highest-strength fine silk yarn.

Bring your pearl necklace to the people you trust to do it right…Roman Jewelers.

Antique and Vintage Jewelry Restoration

The most meaningful pieces are those that come with their own unique story.

Here at Roman Jewelers, we recognize the sentimental value of antique jewelry. We know vintage and antique pieces are often family heirlooms that have been handed down from generation to generation and carry family history.

Our expert team of jewelers can restore fragile antique pieces with the highest level of care. We will bring your old pieces back to life without compromising their original beauty or history.

Jewelry Cleaning and Polishing

Cleaning and polishing, like all aspects of jewelry repair, require a high level of expertise. A jeweler must not only know what equipment and materials to use, but also how best to care for any stones embedded in a piece.

We use only the highest-quality modern polishing and ultrasonic equipment, as well as professional-grade steam cleaning equipment, to polish and clean your jewelry and watches.
