August’s Beautiful Peridot

August is my favorite Month because it evokes a lot of emotion—we know summer is coming to an end but we still have some time to enjoy it. And soon enough, the excitement of Fall will arrive in New Jersey! Peridot reminds me of all of that, so it is perfect as August’s birthstone.  Peridot ranges in color from light yellowish green to dark brownish green. It is abundant and made in the USA! Most of our peridot is actually mined in Arizona. The brighter lime and olive greens are considered the most prized. Since ancient times, periodot is said to provide healing powers and protection against nightmares. It is the gemstone to gift on a 16th wedding anniversary, as well. In Hawaii, peridot is a volcanic gem formed in the deep fires of the earth; and is treasured as the tears of Pele. An entire beach in Oahu is formed of peridot sand, worn to powder by the ceaseless ocean. Pele’s gift of peridot is thought by many to not only heal, but to bring wealth and growth. As the days get shorter, and Summer starts to fade, notice that peridot sparkles just as brilliantly at night as in the sun.
